Sixth form or Class 7 is based upstairs in the Churchill school building. We offer a tailored curriculum, which endeavours to meet the needs of the students in Class 7. Our students access the majority of their curriculum at Haverhill Community Sixth form. In addition to the teachers and specialists that deliver or support their lessons; our students continue to have the support of a teaching assistant that has been allocated to Class 7.
Our curriculum has been designed to help to ensure that our students can access their Post 18 aspirations. At present we have students studying art and English at A level, BTEC Health and Social Care, and BTEC Science. In order to ensure our students develop their independence; all Class 7 students are working towards an ASDAN qualification.
We start our day with meeting time where we ensure all the students know which lessons they have and are fully prepared for that day’s learning. During meeting time, we discuss current issues and focus on further developing communication and social skills. Some of our students take the opportunity to join meeting time or assembly at Samuel Ward Academy.
The students are allocated independent study times which usually take place in Class 7 or in a fully resourced ICT suite and are supported by a member of staff.
Class 7 students continue to be supported by our Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy teams in line with provision indicated in their EHC plans. We strive to meet all our learners’ needs in school, develop their independence and prepare them for life after Churchill.
